I/O error in file UserPref.DAT

The UserPref.dat file is a configuration file for the User’s Preferences.

There is no accounting data in this file. You may simply rename it or delete it. Sage 50 or Peachtree Accounting will create a new file for you when you reopen the program.

Create a backup prior to deleting files.

Make sure you know the correct location of the userpref.dat file if you are running multiple companies.

Click here to find your Companies Data Location.

  1. Have all user log out of Sage 50 or Peachtree Accounting
  2. Navigate to the Companies Data Location.
  3. Delete or rename the userpref.dat file
  4. Start Sage 50 or Peachtree and a new file will be created you.
