How can we help?
Setting Report Data Connections for Sage 50 and Peachtree
Each report may have Data Connection(s) to a Sage 50 or Peachtree Company. When you install a new report you must set the data connection to the Sage 50 Company you wish to work with.
Before you can set this connection you need to make sure your Sage 50 / Peachtree has allowed access to the database. Instructions here
You will need to add and create a password for each Sage 50 / Peachtree Company. The password may be the same for each company.
There are 3 ways you can set the data connection for a report.
- Use DBQ Name
- Use a custom connection
- Saved Connection
DBQ Name
DBQ Name is an alias to the database location. You can create and use the existing DBQ name as your connection. DSStudio provides the ability to create, delete, and view DBQ Name entries. DBQ Entries only contain the alias to the database location. You will need to provide a User ID and Password to access the database. More Information
Custom Connections
Custom Connections don’t use the DBQ Name, you provide the connections details including the data location, username, and password. More Information
Stored Connection
Stored Connections allow you to save your connection to be reused easily. Stored connections will save the complete database connection including the User ID and Password. It is provided for ease of use, not for security. Your User ID and Password will to visible on the screen.
It does not matter which method you use, they all make the same connection. Using DBQ Name is a bit easier as DSStudio will be prompted you for the connection requirements and Custom Connections will have to be manually typed but may provide more options if needed.
Both DBQ Name and Custom Connections will protect your passwords. After you have established the connection DSStudio Viewer will hide passwords. If you are using Stored Connections they will retain the password in clear sight. Depending upon your office security policies you will have to choose which connection will protect your password.
