Troubleshooting: “Load DBQ Names” Button Freezes or Shows Nothing
If clicking “Load DBQ Names” in the Maintain Template window results in a blank screen or a temporary freeze, the most likely cause is that the Actian Zen Database Engine is not running.
To resolve this, start the Zen engine using one of the methods below:
🖥️ Method 1: Using Windows Services
- Press the Windows Key + R , type services.msc , and hit Enter.
- In the Services window, look for one of these:
- Actian Zen Workgroup Engine
- Actian Zen Enterprise Server
- Or simply zenengine
- Right-click the service and choose Start.
🧰 Method 2: Start Menu Shortcut
If installed as an application (not a service), you may find a shortcut like:
- Start Workgroup Engine in the Start Menu or Apps screen.
This launches the engine manually, typically for Workgroup installations.
