Accounts Payable G/L balance doesn’t match the Vendor Aging report

Someone posted directly to the AP G/L account

This is the #1 cause in real‑world Sage 50 troubleshooting.

Any of these will break the tie between AP Aging and the AP G/L:

  • General Journal entries (GEN) posted to the AP account
  • Cash Disbursements (CDJ) using the AP account instead of an expense
  • Purchase Journal (PJ) entries using the wrong AP account
  • Corrections made directly in the G/L instead of through AP

Crystal-clear rule from Sage:
Only AP module transactions should ever hit the AP General Ledger account.

Watch your date range

When researching problems make sure you are always using the correct date range.

How to find them:
Print the General Ledger for the AP account and check the Jrnl column.

Valid journals for AP are:

  • PJ (Purchase Journal)
  • CDJ (Cash Disbursements Journal)

Anything else (GEN, COG, INAJ, SJ, etc.) is a red flag.
